Membership Levels

 

Liberty Sailing Club (LSC) offers Crew and Skipper memberships which provide access to the fleet of club boats.  Minimum age for membership is 21. 

The full membership year is from April 1 until March 31 of the following year and includes a full season of sailing from April through November as well as all organized learning and social activities.  Frostbite is from the signup date through March 31st of the following year.

Open House: Because we have been at capacity for memberships all season, and our Frostbite memberships sold out very quickly, we have decided to delay our next open house until possibly Spring, 2025.  Mark your calendars for early-March to check this page for open house announcements.

 

Crew Membership (Full Season)

COST: $1,100 / season 

A Crew membership is available to all. No sailing experience is required, however we do recommend taking ASA101 through a sailing school prior to joining, in order to become familiar with basic sailing and safety concepts.  All new members must join as Crew regardless of sailing experience.  Crew members can become skippers with our club by going through our Skipper-in-training program.  Crew members can participate in all cruising, racing, and social events.  We are a volunteer-driven club, so signing up for a committee (i.e. social, cruising, and especially maintenance) is highly encouraged!

 

Skipper Membership (Full Season)

COST: $1,100 / season

New members must join as Crew regardless of sailing experience.  Current members of the club with a Crew membership can become skippers in the club by completing our skipper-in-training program.  To become a Skipper, a member must demonstrate proficiency on J27s, be knowledgeable sailing on the local Delaware River and be capable of skippering an unfamiliar, inexperienced crew.  A prospective skipper should possess the skills and abilities associated with ASA Coastal Cruising certification.  All aspiring skippers must take an on-the-water test with a flag officer and possess a hand-held marine VHF radio and a NASBLA-approved, state-issued boater safety certificate/card (regardless of age or residency).  

Racing Skippers must also take and pass a racing rules test and race as a co-skipper for at least one race series.

A Skipper may sign-out a boat for cruising on their own (daylight hours only) when it is not required for an organized club activity.

We are a volunteer-driven club, so signing up for a committee (i.e. social, cruising, and especially maintenance) is highly encouraged!

Past-Member Social Membership (Full Season)

COST: $220 / season

Only for past members who may not be able to sail but wish to keep in touch with the club by attending social events at the docks, in the clubhouse or other event spaces. Does not include sailing (other than the standard 2x/season as a guest). Membership Chair approval required.  Other discounts do not apply to this membership type.

 

Fall Frostbite Membership

$385 - Sailing from ~September 1st through early/mid November + 

A Fall Frostbite Membership is for new members only.  It Includes sailing and social events as well as any racing events that might pop up from Sept through early November, when the boats go back "on the hard".  You are then welcome to participate in volunteering opportunities to work on (and learn) boat maintenance in the off-season, and of course attend social/clubhouse activities through March 31 of the following year. 

How it works: 
We follow the summer schedule until the sun fades too quickly to go out in the evenings... From that point on, we sail Saturdays and Sundays, and some skippers will add weekday sails here-and-there.  You can sign up as crew for social sails until the boats go back "on the hard" for winter (early-November).  We will then have a few "work parties" to clean up the boats and prepare them for winter.  Over the winter, we have various social events, and in March, Frostbite members will have the opportunity to sign up for the full 2025 season before we open to the public.  (and more work parties!)

Discounts

Discounts are available for full season membership dues only, and can not be applied to pro-rated memberships, social memberships or Fall Frostbite memberships. Discounts are granted thru the website by using a discount code on the website payment page. Discounts must be requested and code input when renewing or registering as a new member for the season; we will be unable to retroactively apply membership discounts.

Family Memberships

Family memberships are available for Crew and Skipper full year memberships. When two family members join, a 20% discount is applied to the 2nd (and subsequent) membership.

Student Memberships

Students (currently enrolled as a full time student as undergraduate/graduate/doctorate) will get a 15% discount applied to full year crew or skipper membership.

Seniors

Members having reached their 65th birthday by April 1 and having 2+ full years in the club will get a 15% reduction in regular full season dues.

Steadfast Members (15+ Years of Membership)

Liberty Sailing Club is appreciative of long-term club members who have contributed to the club through sailing and volunteering for over 15 years. Members who are joining for their 15th consecutive year or afterwards are eligible for a 15% discount on full-season membership dues (with the exception of 2020 and 2021 seasons, due to the COVID-19 pandemic). Members seeking this discount for the first time will be required to show proof of tenure by providing a copy of application form or dues payment from their 1st year as a member.  Cannot be combined with any other discounts (update 8/5/2024).

 

Payments

Full season membership fees are due March 1.  We appreciate members who pay dues with one payment! Payment plan options are available on request only.
